Arizona
The graphs on the left show the rate of growth compared to the earliest year for which we have data -- in most cases 2003. The gray lines represent a theoretical constant annual rate of change. The bar charts on the right show the actual values for each year we have data.
For example, in 2011, Arizona had 67 new wells drilled.

Notes: Arizona did not provide annual counts for enforcement actions, but said that they had seven enforcement actions from 2003 to 2009. Since 1991, there has been one staff member for the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Ten percent of his time is spent on enforcement, conducting field inspections and monitoring oil production. Budget numbers are for the Arizona Geological Survey and are from the Governor's Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting website. The budget for the Arizona Oil and Gas Conservation Commission for fiscal years 2010 and 2011 was roughly $60,000. Total wells include producing wells, active disposal wells and shut-in wells.
