Notes: Data are for state-managed wells for the calendar year. From 2009 through 2011, wells drilled -- defined as spud, or started – and total wells come from the state's Oil & Gas Division website. North Dakota does not tally enforcement actions. There are five enforcement positions that the state expected to fill before the end of 2012. North Dakota provided biennial budget figures for FY2009-2011 and FY2011-2013. The total well count includes producing oil and gas wells.
