Mentally ill immigrants trapped in US detention without attorneys
Illegal immigrants with severe mental disabilities often sit in detention for years without access to attorneys. The Immigration and Nationality act gives non-citizens the privilege of representation – just not at the government's expense. Now, a class-action suit claims that this blockade strips mentally ill immigrants of due process rights and violates federal anti-discrimination laws.
