Keystone Pipeline Sparks Property Rights Backlash
Even though the Keystone pipeline has been put on hold, the Canadian company that wants to build it is still trying to obtain property in Texas for the project. Several landowners say Transcanada has bullied them into selling their property by asserting "eminent domain" authority, the same power that governments use to seize land for public infrastructure projects. The company's efforts have sparked a largely conservative property-rights backlash, with at least 89 lawsuits involving TransCanada in Texas.
