16.804 - Recovery Act - Justice Assistance Grants - Localities The City of Falfurrias (lead agency) and Brooks County, Texas, (subrecipient) will effectively implement the $13,177 '2009 JAG Formula Local Grant.' All grant activities will improve law enforcement officer effectiveness and safety in the 943 square mile rural area that is home to more than 12,599 citizens. The grant's purpose and expected outcomes are to strengthen local law enforcement efforts by enhancing interoperable multijurisdictional communications and to prevent the loss of time/jobs for 20 existing law enforcement positions. Results of the grant will be the acquisition of appropriate equipment and training to help law enforcement officers at both agencies effectively and safely perform job activities. Project goals are to: efficiently implement the grant by purchasing all supplies and equipment and expending funds appropriately within deadlines; properly train officers who need extra support to utilize items; and submit reports in a timely manner. Major deliverables include the specific equipment and supplies to be purchased and the timely and appropriate expenditure and reporting of funds. Specific equipment to be acquired includes: for the City of Falfurrias Police Department, 2 mobile radios and a radar unit, totaling $6,129; and, for the Brooks County, 2 mobile radios, totaling $7,048.
