Eric Branstad is the Senior White House Advisor at the United States Department of Commerce. He began his service managing the Beachhead Team at Commerce following the Inauguration on January 20, 2017. Mr. Branstad is the main point of contact and chief aid for the Secretary in any of Secretary Wilbur Ross’s needs as relating to the White House or broader Administration. He works as a partner and senior advisor directly with the Secretary of Commerce and other Department officials on their policies, duties, and responsibilities. Mr. Branstad is also responsible for special projects as determined by the office of the President, Vice President, First Lady, and other White House Agencies. He coordinates with the White House staff, members of Congress, and other senior officials in order to further the goals of the Administration. Prior to joining the Administration at the Department of Commerce, Mr. Branstad was Liaison to the Nation’s Governors for the 58th Presidential Inaugural Committee. Previous to that, Mr. Branstad served as the Iowa State Director of the Donald J. Trump for President Campaign. On election day, the President won Iowa, one of the nation’s most important battleground states, by 9.5%, the largest margin since Ronald Reagan in 1980. He also won 93 of the Hawkeye State’s 99 counties. Two months before election day, Mr. Branstad was tasked with developing a strategy to win Wisconsin, a neighboring battleground state. President Donald J. Trump was the first Republican to win Wisconsin since 1984. Preceding the campaign, Mr. Branstad was a founding partner of a Des Moines-based consulting firm called Matchpoint Strategies. He specialized in developing and managing public relations campaigns, fundraising programs, and earned media initiatives.
