The missile silos and former support structures originally occupied a 291-acre area that included a 244-acre easement surrounding the underground facility to ensure isolation and security. The area occupied by the missile silos and support structures is approximately 47 acres. Private residents, who had a leasehold interest in the property, exercised their rights, and, as part of a Final Judgment Revesting Title, acquired fee simple title in June 1961 to 64.63 acres at and adjacent to the main missile complex area. The property containing the main missile complex is currently owned by a private resident. The site is currently under private ownership and is used for livestock grazing. Update (Dec. 5, 2017): We have changed the source of the installation cost data after being notified by the Department of Defense that they erroneously reported their own cost figures on the DERP website. We are now displaying the costs the department says are the most accurate available, from the Pentagon’s DERP database that we received in a FOIA request.
Note: The risk level of a site refers to a relative risk assessment made by the DOD to prioritize the cleanup of sites.
