There is a walking path throughout the northern section of the property, however, several others trails have been close for five years. Previous comment by Heather Sullivan on 5/25/2010 The site is located at Sachuest Point in Middletown, RI. The Army used the site as a fire control station for harbor defense of Narragansett Bay, and constructed three structures disguised to resemble farmhouse barn and silo. The Army also built an SCR-296A fire control radar consisting of an antenna tower, metal radar operations building, and two prefabricated metal generator buildings, well pump house, and searchlight tower. The Navy used the site as a small arms training center, communication station, and fleet recreation area. The Navy constructed eight 200-yard rifle ranges, a 500-yard rifle range, two 50-foot rifle ranges, a small caliber range, and pistol range in addition to several quarters, shops, barracks, a 50,000-gallon underground reservoir, and other buildings. All ammunition was stored in two magazines, buildings #10 and #14. The Army transferred 18.9 acres to the Navy in March 1950 The site was not under other than DOD control during the period of DOD ownership or use. (Source: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) « see less

Update (Dec. 5, 2017): We have changed the source of the installation cost data after being notified by the Department of Defense that they erroneously reported their own cost figures on the DERP website. We are now displaying the costs the department says are the most accurate available, from the Pentagon’s DERP database that we received in a FOIA request.

Note: The risk level of a site refers to a relative risk assessment made by the DOD to prioritize the cleanup of sites.
