Cardioprotective mechanisms of cell therapy for myocardial infarction
Project Narrative Cell therapy for the heart can be both cardioprotective and regenerative. Here we focus on understanding the cardioprotective effects of cardiosphere-derived cells given adjunctively after reperfusion for acute myocardial infarction. The mechanistic roles of macrophages and neutrophils will be investigated, and the short- and long- term functional consequences will be characterized.
