Cross-species identification and validation of synthetic lethal relationships with VHL inactivation
PROJECT NARRATIVE Nearly 44,000 people will be diagnosed with clear cell renal cell carcinoma in 2016, 90% of whom will have mutations in the VHL tumor suppressor gene. The goal of this study is to identify cellular changes that result from VHL inactivation that can be exploited to target cancer cells for cell death without comparable harm to healthy cells. By doing so, normal functions of the protein product of VHL will also be revealed.
