GPIbalpha shedding and platelet clearance
The objective of this proposed project is to define the role of ectodomain shedding of glycoprotein GP1b? in mediating platelet clearance by utilizing a novel monoclonal antibody inhibitor that specifically blocks shedding of GP1b?. This project will help to elucidate the molecular mechanism underlying the clearance process of stored platelets, and therefore have implications on novel means to improve platelet storage for transfusion treatment.
