Conflict of Interest
Institutions must file significant disclosures to the National Institutes of Health if they determine financial relationships could affect the design, conduct or reporting of the NIH-funded research. The NIH provided us with their entire financial conflict of interest database, with filings from 2012 through 2019.

Dr. Kacena is the principal officer of Osteofuse, LLC and holds an equity interest in the entity. While currently only "one paper, patents have been filed. Osteofuse, LLC, is focused on bringing bone healing therapy to the clinic and plans to pursue Phase I STTR funding.
Thrombopoietin: A novel regulator of bone healing
Healing large defects in bone is difficult in many cases. We have found that a novel protein, thrombopoietin, can enhance bone healing in mice and eventually hope to bring this to the clinic for use by orthopaedic surgeons.
