Institutions must file significant disclosures to the National Institutes of Health if they determine financial relationships could affect the design, conduct or reporting of the NIH-funded research. Dr. Allison serves on Biofortis's Scientific Advisory Board and comments on nutrition and nutrition research as new topics emerge. This award is looking to teach new researchers ways to identify factors causing obesity and methods which cause reductions in obesity. Since nutrition is closely tied to obesity the role Dr. Allison plays on Ikea's scientific advisory board relates to the topics being taught to new researchers as part of this award.
Strengthening Causal Inference in Behavioral Obesity Research
Obesity affects over one-third of the US population generating a vital need for novel interdisciplinary strategies to identify factors causing (not merely correlating with) obesity and methods which cause reductions in obesity. A burgeoning array of research techniques exists to help scientists make more informed conclusions about causal effects, but many obesity researchers are unfamiliar with these techniques. The proposed course will train scientists in understanding and using such techniques, who in turn will be better positioned to help identify ways of reducing the burden of obesity.
