Conflict of Interest
Institutions must file significant disclosures to the National Institutes of Health if they determine financial relationships could affect the design, conduct or reporting of the NIH-funded research. The NIH provided us with their entire financial conflict of interest database, with filings from 2012 through 2019.

InnoVoyce LLC
Equity Interest - Non-publicly traded entity ( e.g., stock, stock option, or other ownership interest)
Dr. Hillman serves on the Board of Directors and is a consultant for InnoVoyce LLC; as such, he holds private equity in the company. InnoVoyce is focused on developing and commercializing technologies for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of voice-related disorders. The goal of the research is to develop a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying hyperfunctional voice disorders and to translate this knowledge into new, more effective methods for prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The research and the company have an overlapping interest in the development of technologies for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders and, if the research is successful, the company may have an interest in the resulting IP. The Partners Committee on Outside Activities reviewed the financial interest in connection with the research and determined that the financial interest could directly and significantly affect the design, conduct, or reporting of the research. The committee determined that the conflict could be managed with the implementation of an FCOI management plan.
Clinical Research Center for the Improved Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Vocal Hyperfunction
Project Narrative Vocal hyperfunction (VH) is linked to the most prevalent types of voice disorders but effective prevention and clinical management of these conditions continue to be hampered by limited knowledge of the etiological and pathophysiological mechanisms associated with VH. To address this need, this Clinical Research Center brings together a multidisciplinary team of experienced investigators to pursue a comprehensive program of research focused on hyperfunctional voice disorders. Achieving the goals of this research program will lead to improved prevention, differential diagnosis, and more focused and efficient treatment of these very prevalent conditions.

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.
Fewer than 10% of records from the University of Florida and fewer than 1% of records from the University of Texas system were removed because they did not contain enough information.
