The Role of B-cells in Lung Injury and Repair
Project Narrative Pulmonary fibrosis is an incurable disease that causes respiratory failure and death in the majority of patients, with lung transplant being the only curative option. While, B-cell aggregates are frequently found in the lung tissue of a subset of these patients, B-cell depleted therapies showed only variable clinical responses suggesting that better understanding of B-cells is needed to identify potential curative treatments. Upon conclusion of our studies, aimed at dissecting the main mechanisms by which B-cells contribute to the development of fibrosis, will aid in the identification of new targets for therapeutic exploitation in a selected group of patients with lung fibrosis.
