Dr. Santosh Helekar is key personnel on this grant and co-investigator on this study. Dr. Helekar is the inventor of the TRPMS magnetic stimulation technology utilized under Specific Aim 3 of the proposal. This technology has been licensed to Saraya Medical; Dr. Helekar has not to date received any royalties or compensation from this IP licensing. As a collaborator on this study, Dr. Helekar only provides Dr. Khavari with the necessary TRPMS stimulation devices that he builds in his laboratory, and technical consultation and training in their use. He will not be involved in decision-making or reporting.

SUPRASPINAL TARGETS IN NEUROGENIC VOIDING DYSFUNCTION

Project Narrative Difficulty emptying the bladder (voiding dysfunction) is a morbid and costly condition that leads to urinary tract infections, stones, sepsis, and permanent kidney failure, and it has a significantly negative effect on patients? quality of life. Currently the only available therapy for voiding dysfunction is catheterization which is also associated with trauma, pain, and infection, thus necessitating the development of novel therapies potentially beyond the bladder such as targeting voiding centers in the brain. I propose to use our unique and proven neuroimaging platform to identify brain regions involved in voiding in patients with neurogenic bladder and perform targeted cortical stimulation in these areas to modulate and improve bladder emptying.
