The SFIs of the investigator are related to the funded research since the technology being used in the project has been licensed to the company with which the investigator has multiple relationships. The Institution has determined that since the technology could be further validated as a result of the research, these financial interests could conflict with project.
Delivery of pathogen-trapping antibodies for vaginal protection
The lack of vaccines for many common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) has resulted in tremendous health and cost burden in the United States and worldwide; thus, there is an urgent need for alternative methods to block STIs. To better protect against STIs, Mucommune is developing antibodies engineered to trap pathogens in mucus, thereby directly blocking vaginal infections. This STTR will establish the feasibility of producing a multi-purpose vaginal ring providing month-long delivery of pathogen-trapping antibodies against a broad spectrum of STIs.
