PurSpec Technologies, Inc. aims to develop and commercialize miniature mass spectrometry systems for chemical analysis. As part of this NIH sponsored project, the Investigators will develop a mass spectrometry analysis system and a protocol that can be applied for chemical analysis at the point of care for medical diagnosis. Specifically, the first aim of the project is to develop a miniature mass spectrometer that has compact size, low cost of ownership and maintenance with adequate performance for quantitative analysis. The second and third aims are to develop sample cartridges for direct analysis of blood samples and an operational protocol that allows this system to be used by nurses and physicians, who do not need to have special training in chemical analysis using mass spectrometry. These specific aims are, or may become relevant for the business scope and activities of PurSpec Technologies, Inc.

The proposed research has the potential to lead to the development of a first point-of- care mass spectrometry system for direct analysis of raw biological samples. It has strong relevance to general public health by providing a powerful tool for fast, easy, highly sensitive, selective and quantitative chemical monitoring for clinical diagnosis or personal health care.
