Unobtrusive Sensing of Medication Intake ("USE-MI")
The successful management and prevention of HIV infection is even more dependent on high, consistent, and persistent levels of adherence to medications than management of most other chronic health conditions, and novel approaches are needed for both measurement and enhancement of medication adherence. Recent advances in 'wearable' and near field communication (NFC) technologies have created new, affordable, socially acceptable opportunities to remind, measure, track and encourage individual activity. This project seeks improve HIV-related medication adherence through an innovative combination of these technologies with advances in mobile communication technology as a means to provide the patient a means to set personal goals and effective reminders for medication adherence, verify ingestion of each dose of prescribed medication(s), track adherence over time, and allow treatment teams the ability both to see and act on real- time adherence data as well as make changes to patients' medication regimens with the assurance that the changes will immediately be put into effect.

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.
