Conflict of Interest

Institutions must file significant disclosures to the National Institutes of Health if they determine financial relationships could affect the design, conduct or reporting of the NIH-funded research. The NIH provided us with their entire financial conflict of interest database, with filings from 2012 through 2019.

Disclosed Conflict of Interest with

Moonlight Therapeutics

Disclosed Value
Listed Reason
Equity Interest - Non-publicly traded entity ( e.g., stock, stock option, or other ownership interest)

The goal of the entity (Moonlight Therapeutics) is developing microneedle technology for treatment of peanut allergy. This goal does not directly map onto this project/grant, however it does map onto other NIH funded research projects that are being conducted by Dr. Gill. It was not clear as to whether we had to disclose Dr. Gill’s FCOI to all his projects funded by NIH or only to his NIH projects that are conflicted with the disclosed entity. New discoveries made by NIH sponsored projects will not be shared with Moonlight Therapeutics. Discoveries will be disclosed to the TTU Office of Commercialization and the entity will have the option to examine these results through appropriate channels within the TTU Office of Commercialization.

Listed Research Project
Development of a Universal Influenza Vaccine Against Influenza A and B Viruses

NARRATIVE This project focuses on the development of a universal influenza vaccine that can enable protection against all influenza A and B strains, thus eliminating the need for yearly vaccinations against influenza, and the threat of influenza pandemics. Successful completion of the project may in the long run reduce much morbidity, especially amongst elderly and children.

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.

Fewer than 10% of records from the University of Florida and fewer than 1% of records from the University of Texas system were removed because they did not contain enough information.

ProPublica obtained additional financial disclosures and conflict of interest forms that we have not yet digitized and added to the database. You can download those disclosures in the ProPublica Data Store.
