IgA nephropathy and the role of clustered glycosylation initiation by GalNAc-transferases
This project explores a fundamental step to the pathogenicity of IgA nephropathy: glycosylation initiation and the formation of galactose-deficient IgA1. Currently there is no cure and limited treatment for IgA nephropathy, which often results in end stage renal disease. We will determine how the enzymes that initiate glycosylation can lead to IgA nephropathy and open the door to new treatment opportunities.
