Dr. Gallo is a co-founder of MatriSys Bioscience, Inc. (MatriSys) and serves as the chair of the company's scientific advisory board. He holds approximately (b)(4) equity of stock/stock options in the company and receives compensation ((b)(4)) for his consulting activities. In addition, the company has licensed intellectual property of which Dr. Gallo is the inventor. The company is developing rational microbiome therapies based on Dr. Gallo's basic and clinical research for the top five dermatology and skin care conditions, Acne, Atopic Dermatitis (AD), Rosacea, Psoriasis and Skin Infections. The project is testing the benefit of applying selected bacteria from the skin microbiome to human subjects with AD.
Establishing a Skin Microbiome Transplant
The commensal microbial community includes a diverse collection of bacteria that produce factors of benefit to human health. This proposal seeks to test defined interventions that will help understand variables in the host and microbe that can enable transplant of commensal bacteria to the skin.
