Olaf Schneewind, MD, PhD is co-founder along with his Co-PI on the above grant, Dominique Missiakas, PhD of the new, privately-held startup company ImmunArtes, LLC. This aim of this company is to develop vaccines against Staphylococcus aureus. Because the business interests of ImmunArtes, LLC overlaps with the overall aims of this R01, the University has determined that a financial conflict of interest exists that must be managed in relation to this research.
Vaccine Assembly from Surface Proteins of Staphylococcus aureus
NARRATIVE MRSA, antibiotic-resistant S. aureus, is a frequent cause of infectious disease morbidity and mortality in the United States, however vaccines for MRSA infections are not available. This need is addressed in a proposal that will reveal the molecular basis for immune evasion and protective immunity against S. aureus and generate MRSA vaccines for clinical development.
