FirstCHeckEM Textbook

Listed Reason

This is an online textbook reference for emergency medicine. Description here: Take few minutes and watch this video that Mel has put together, which discusses his vision for the book, then please take a look at the rest of the email if you are interested in learning more. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dxrQ4b151uvP8lN5DObG8S_empClFEjj/view?usp=drivesdk We believe that this is going to be a truly groundbreaking text that will change the way medical textbooks are written and used in the future. While the text will have standard chapters, they will be written with a focus on the real-time clinician. The initial portion of the text will be targeted at what a physician needs to know, real-time during a shift. It will serve as a quick reference and will particularly focus on the sick, crashing patient. The latter portion of the text will then focus on more traditional aspects of the topic that can be read for reference later. A sample chapter has been attached. Within each chapter will be hyperlinks to videos, podcasts, and images that relate to the topic, all from within the EM:RAP universe. Links will also be created to many of the key references in the chapters. (The attached sample chapter will not yet have this.) Unlike print textbooks, this textbook will be updated on a quarterly basis, so this is not going to be a ???one-and-done??? book, or even a book with multiple editions...instead, it will be the most continually updated textbook in our specialty. It will be THE textbook of emergency medicine. This text will be immediately available to all 30,000 EM:RAP subscribers and will also be made available for free to many practitioners in developing countries, making this text the most widely read text in our specialty. Author selection recommendations should have completed their chapters and submitted them to you by the mid part of March.

Sources: National Institutes of Health, public records requests filed at multiple public state universities

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.

Fewer than 10% of records from the University of Florida and fewer than 1% of records from the University of Texas system were removed because they did not contain enough information.

ProPublica obtained additional financial disclosures and conflict of interest forms that we have not yet digitized and added to the database. You can download those disclosures in the ProPublica Data Store.
