Elite Medical Experts

Listed Reason

In May 2014, a 33-year-old man (plaintiff Justin Quick) with a history of lumbar spine surgery was involved in a motor vehicle accident where he was hit from behind by another vehicle (defendant Georgia Dept. of Corrections). Almost a year after the accident, the man underwent an L5-S1 TILF. He has since filed a claim against the other driver alleging that the accident led to the need for subsequent surgical intervention. I am being asked to serve as an expert for the defense. The law firm representing the other driver's insurer is in need of a Neuro Spine Surgery expert to independently review the man's medical records - both prior to and after the second surgery - to determine what occurred. The role of the expert is to determine the nature, etiology, extent, and prognosis of the man's spinal injury(s). The expert also will determine whether the man's second surgery was necessary as a result of the accident or whether a more probable cause was more likely. This is not a medical negligence case and there are no allegations against any healthcare provider. If the expert's opinion is relevant to the case theory, then the expert may be called for future testimony in the form of a report, deposition and/or trial. Although the need for trial cannot be known at the present time, if testimony is eventually required the expert will be expected to appear. The treating physicians and hospitals are (there are no allegations against these providers or institutions as it is not a medical negligence case): Eastside Medical Center; Kaiser; Peachtree Orthopeadics (Dr. Chang); Peachtree Neurosurgery (Dr. Kevin Stevenson and Dr. Thomas Morrison); Northside Hospital; DeKalb Medical Physicians Group ? Atlanta Neurosurgical Associates East; and Reagan Medical Center. His post-accident treatment as rendered by Reagan Medical Center (Robert G. Whitener, PA; Dr. Satish Poddar); Eastside Medical Center; Conservative Spine and Joint Center (Dr. Ruben Diaz); Athens Orthopaedic Clinic (Dr. William Tally); and Athens Regional Medical Center

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.

Fewer than 10% of records from the University of Florida and fewer than 1% of records from the University of Texas system were removed because they did not contain enough information.

ProPublica obtained additional financial disclosures and conflict of interest forms that we have not yet digitized and added to the database. You can download those disclosures in the ProPublica Data Store.
