Approximately three years ago, the JDRF and Helmsley Trust introduced me to a group at Stanford that was attempting to develop autoantibody tests for type 1 diabetes. During this time period, we supported its development through provision of serum samples. This resulted in a recent PNAS publication (2017). Now, the company, spun off from the technology platform, was awarded a phase 2 NIH SBIR award. In that, they put monies for me to consult. Hence, in the agreement, you will see fees for up to 2 hours per month. The agreement they provided represents an edited version (on their part) to one that UF previously approved for me that I "scrubbed" identifying information. Now, in early 2019, I am seeking renewal. What have I learned? I believe I have spoken with them for two hours by phone (over the entire year) PLUS provided comments to an NIH SBIR application. Hence, the time commitment has been far less than anticipated. The SBIR funded hence, I see at least another 12-18 months of effort here, if allowed.
