OnVi BioPharm
Equity Interest - Non-publicly traded entity ( e.g., stock, stock option, or other ownership interest)
The investigator holds an equity interest ((b)(4)) in the non-publicly trade startup company OnVi Biopharm. OnVi Biopharm has licensed the investigator's FusOn-H2 oncolytic virus technology from the University of Houston. Dr. Zhang is the PI on the R01; the primary aim of the research is to further develop to licensed cancer virotherapy technology. As the aim is development and not validation or human subjects research, the institution considers the conflict to be a minor one at this time. In addition, the PI has not received shares from the company.
Reconstruction of an oncolytic HSV vector for systemic delivery
Despite the exciting recent progress in clinical trials of virotherapy, a major hurdle still facing cancer virotherapy is the lack of an efficient way to systemically deliver the viruses for the treatment of metastatic diseases. We plan to develop a series of novel strategies to overcome this problem, so that they may be applied in the design of new clinical trials in the near future.
