Dong Wang

The NIH Grant, Nanomedicine Development for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, provides support for the basic research of the glucocorticoid prodrug for the improved treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, invented by Dr. Dong Wang, that UNeMed, the technology transfer and commercialization entity for the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has licensed to Shannon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (“Company”). The company has provided a Letter of Intent to provide funding for additional development work to be carried out by Dr. Wang’s laboratory at UNMC. Dr. Wang is the President of the company, and has an equity ownership interest valued between (b)(4). The UNMC Conflict of Interest Committee reviewed Dr. Wang’s Significant Financial Interest (SFI) and determined that the SFI is related to the research because Dr. Wang is President of and has an equity interest in Shannon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The UNMC COI Committee determined the SFI conflicts with such research because the definition of Conflict of Interest under University of Nebraska Board of Regents COI Policy Includes “the appearance of compromising the conduct of the research study.” Although the UNMC COI Committee concluded the likelihood that the SFI would significantly affect the design, conduct and reporting of the research is low, a COI management plan was implemented to minimize the appearance of bias and meet University of Nebraska Board of Regents COI policy requirements.
