Institutions must file significant disclosures to the National Institutes of Health if they determine financial relationships could affect the design, conduct or reporting of the NIH-funded research. The NIH provided us with their entire financial conflict of interest database, with filings from 2012 through 2019.

Second Sight Medical Products (SSMP)

Part of the work on this project involves a subcontract from USC to SSMP. This work is critical to Aim 3 of the project. While Dr. Humayun does have a limited role on this project and will not be performing any experiments, he is advising on the research and has a financial interest in SSMP.
Experimental and Clinical Investigations of Retinal Stimulation
Retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration are two significant causes of blindness. Microelectronic retinal prostheses have the potential to restore partial vision to patients with these diseases. The proposed research will investigate methods for improving the visual capability of current implant patients and optimizing the design of next generation implants.
