Conflict of Interest

Institutions must file significant disclosures to the National Institutes of Health if they determine financial relationships could affect the design, conduct or reporting of the NIH-funded research. The NIH provided us with their entire financial conflict of interest database, with filings from 2012 through 2019.

Disclosed Conflict of Interest with

CerSci Therapeutics, Inc.

Disclosed Value
Listed Reason
Equity Interest - Non-publicly traded entity ( e.g., stock, stock option, or other ownership interest)

CerSci is developing non-opioid pain therapeutics for the treatment and prevention of acute and chronic pain, including a proprietary Peroxynitrite decomposition catalyst for treatment of migraine pain. This project is related to Dr. Dussor’s financial interest in CerSci because the outcome of the research project could appear to affect the financial interests of CerSci.

Dr. Dussor’s financial interest in CerSci could significantly and directly affect the conduct of this research project because this PHS project will study commercially available compounds that share the same mechanism as proprietary CerSci compounds. The project will not use or study proprietary CerSci compounds.

Listed Research Project
Peroxynitrite and Migraine

One of the most consistent triggers for migraine is administration of a nitric oxide (NO) donor and it is well established that approximately 75% of human migraineurs will develop an attack within 6 hours of NO donor administration. Despite this observation, prior studies have not identified the mechanisms by which this occurs. Here, we propose to evaluate a role for production of peroxynitrite downstream of NO in the physiological effects that contribute to migraine in an effort to better understand migraine pathophysiology and to identify new therapeutic targets.

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.

Fewer than 10% of records from the University of Florida and fewer than 1% of records from the University of Texas system were removed because they did not contain enough information.

ProPublica obtained additional financial disclosures and conflict of interest forms that we have not yet digitized and added to the database. You can download those disclosures in the ProPublica Data Store.
