Conflict of Interest
Institutions must file significant disclosures to the National Institutes of Health if they determine financial relationships could affect the design, conduct or reporting of the NIH-funded research. The NIH provided us with their entire financial conflict of interest database, with filings from 2012 through 2019.

An outside activity has a nexus with an individual's research activities if the outside activity arises from, relies upon or is related to the academic expertise that qualifies that individual to participate in federally funded research or human subjects research. The Institution has reasonably determined that the significant financial interest could directly and significantly affect the design, conduct, or reporting of the PHS-funded research and so requires management.
University of Wisconsin-Madison Vision Research Training Program
PROJECT NARRATIVE A T32 pre- and post-doctoral training grant is being submitted to provide research training in basic science disciplines relevant to vision research and to support interdisciplinary, collaborative and translational research so that trainees are prepared to enter and compete within emerging, interactive research environments. The interdisciplinary training supported by the grant will cross traditional department and institute boundaries and will provide exceptional scientific training as well as provide a structure for interactions with clinical scientists and clinicians to meet the goal of understanding, preventing and treating diseases of the visual system. Sixteen faculty currently comprise the training proposal, and they are organized according to four areas of research emphasis: (a) Development and Diseases of the Anterior Segment of the Eye, (b) Development and Diseases of the Posterior Segment of the Eye; (c) Ocular Epidemiology and Genetics; (d) Higher Order Visual Processing.

Notes: When a more specific filing date is not available for an individual financial disclosure or conflict of interest form, we use the year the form was filed. If the year was not disclosed, we report the range of years covered by our public records requests. In a few cases, a start date was provided instead of a filing date. In those cases, we use the start date instead.
Fewer than 10% of records from the University of Florida and fewer than 1% of records from the University of Texas system were removed because they did not contain enough information.
ProPublica obtained additional financial disclosures and conflict of interest forms that we have not yet digitized and added to the database. You can download those disclosures in the ProPublica Data Store.
