A Phase II Trial of Rituximab In Myasthenia Gravis
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder affecting the muscle and results in weakness of the eyelids, arms and legs. Treatment consists of medications that help symptoms such as pyridostigmine and immune suppression drugs such as prednisone, azathioprine, and plasma exchange (PLEX) and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg). Some people do not respond fully or at all to these medications so there is a need for new treatments. We have observed a positive effect with the drug called rituximab in a small number of MG patient. We propose to study rituximab in people with MG to determine if the drug is safe and might be a future treatment for this condition.
