4,700 events in 3,518 cities

First off, thanks for donating before the deadline this week and for putting up with all of our emails. These deadlines are important -- thanks for understanding that.

Last week, I invited you to take part in the It Takes One weekend of action. Supporters like you showed up in a big way. Folks came from 6,734 different zip codes and 3,518 different towns to participate in over 4,700 events, all with a single goal -- to get people fired up and ready to go for 2012.

We're less than 100 days out now, and there's a lot left to do, but we're showing all the time that there's nothing we can't accomplish together.

We put together a new video about what it might be like to be a volunteer in the field during these last few months -- parts of it might look familiar.

Check it out, then share it with your friends and ask them to get involved with you as we head into the final stretch:

Try out our new tax calculator

A lot of times policy debates on the campaign trail can be a bit confusing. This one isn't.

A new report released this week runs the numbers on Mitt Romney's tax plan. To pay for the tax cuts he'd give to millionaires like himself, he'd actually raise taxes on middle-class families with children by an average of more than $X.

We've put together a new tool that lets you see for yourself -- take a look at our tax calculator and find out how each candidate's tax plan would affect you:

Obama - Biden --

If you're like most middle-class Americans, Mitt Romney wants to raise your taxes.

President Obama? He's cut them already, and would extend middle-class tax cuts into his second term.

We've put together a new tax calculator -- go check it out. It'll ask you to enter some basic information, then you can see -- side by side -- what the Obama and Romney tax plans mean for you.

Check out the tax calculator

This isn't our analysis -- it's the conclusion of report released by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center this week. They dug into the details of Romney's plan, ran the numbers, and determined how it all shakes out for real people.

In this case, the numbers only tell one story: Middle-class families with children will pay an average of $X more in taxes under Romney. And multi-millionaires would see an average $X tax cut.

In other words, Mitt Romney's plan asks 125 families roughly to foot the bill for just one of the big tax cuts he'd give out to folks at the very top.

Meanwhile, President Obama is working to extend the middle-class tax cuts worth $X a year to a typical family. But Mitt Romney and his allies in Congress oppose these tax cuts unless they are attached to even more large tax cuts for the most fortunate families, putting the middle class at risk of another tax increase at the end of this year.

The Romney campaign disputes this new nonpartisan report, but it won't provide a single new detail about just how they'd pay for their millionaires' tax cut without raising taxes on middle-class families.

It's not hard to understand why they don't want to talk about the actual numbers here. But if they have a secret tax plan, they ought to put it on the table.

Use our tax calculator -- then pass it around:

When faced with the grim prospect of losing hundreds of millions of hard-earned taxpayer dollars on President Obama's dangerous Solyndra gamble, what was the White House Deputy Senior Adviser's response?

"Ugh."

I wonder if that was also her reaction to learning that Americans have now suffered through a 42nd straight month of unemployment above 8 percent. Or to the news that economic growth remains sluggish, a testament to the failure of President Obama's government-centered policies.

The White House's risky Solyndra wager proved yet again that Barack Obama cares more about saving his own job and his own image than he does about creating jobs for the 23 million people who are still struggling for work.

Americans deserve a leader in the White House who will put job creation and economic growth first. Mitt Romney has the right plan and the right experience to grow and strengthen the middle class.

A stronger middle class

These past three years have been the hardest on the middle class since the Great Depression. This election is about giving middle-class Americans a fair shot. On Day One, I will begin turning this economy around with a plan for a stronger middle class. My plan for the middle class will deliver more jobs and more take-home pay by focusing on: Energy independence: I will unleash our domestic energy resources and eliminate job-killing regulations, so we can finally get the energy we need at a price we can afford. Domestic energy production will bring over a million manufacturing jobs back to the United States. On Day One, I will approve the Keystone XL pipeline, and I will eliminate regulations destroying the coal industry.

Skills to succeed: I believe that a choice for every parent equals a chance for every child, so I will give every family access to great schools and quality teachers. And I will make sure our workers and children have the skills for the jobs of today and tomorrow by having access to job training programs and affordable and effective higher education options.

Trade that works for America: I will open new markets for American goods and services while stopping the unfair trade practices of countries like China who steal our jobs. I will work to strengthen free enterprise around the world.

Cutting the deficit: It's simple -- we need more jobs, less spending, and smaller government. My plan will immediately cut and cap federal spending, balance the budget, and root out bureaucratic inefficiencies. My plan also gives states responsibility for programs they can implement more effectively and efficiently.

Championing small business: Small businesses are being strangled by excessive government regulations and taxes -- I will make government the friend, not the enemy, of business. My plan reduces taxes on job creation through individual and corporate tax reform that's competitive and attractive for jobs to come back to America. Free enterprise is still the greatest force for upward mobility, economic security, and the expansion of the middle class -- and it is anchored by America's small businesses. I am running for president because I know that my policies and vision will help strengthen the middle class, lift people from poverty, and create sustained economic prosperity. I want to help the middle class -- and I will. My comprehensive plan will create 12 million jobs and grow the economy by 4 percent per year on average.
