Patient Pathways Through This ER

After a patient arrives at the emergency room, they are typically seen by a doctor and then either sent home or admitted to the hospital and taken to a room. A small percentage of patients leave without being seen at all. The chart below shows on average how long each of these pathways take. Lower numbers are better, and all times refer to the average length of time people waited. Find out more »

Detailed Quality Measures

Here is a more in depth look at each quality measure, compared to state and national averages for hospitals with medium volumes. Experts caution that very small differences between hospitals for a given measure are unlikely to correspond to noticeable differences in the real world.

Notes: "Average time" refers to the median waiting time (the midpoint of all patients' waiting times). References to "doctor" indicate a doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. CMS reports the CT scan quality measure as the percentage of patients who received a scan within 45 minutes. We have reversed that measure so that all measures follow a "lower is better" pattern.

I took my 15 year old daughter to this er because she was complaining of chest pains. (My family has history of heart problems.) When we arrived at the er I told them she was having chest pains. They asked her on a scale of 1-10 with 10 beinging the worse, how bad her pain was. She told them 9 and that she was having shortness of breath as well. The RN looked at her like she was stupid. After she got all of our information she told us to go have a seat and she would be with us in a min. As we are sitting in the waiting room another patient comes in and tells them that she woke up with a bad headach. Of course they nurse takes her right back. I walked up to the other nurse and told them that my daughter was having bad chest pains and she needed to be seen right away. They told us once again that they would be with us in a min. I could hear my daughter gasping for air after we were sitting there for 2 hours. Finally 3 hours later they called her back. The doc came in and listened to her and then walked out without telling us anything. I'm sitting here in tears because my daughter is in a lot of pain. The RN comes back in and says she is good to go. Everything was fine. Well I knew she wasn't fine. I rushed her to UAB and they took her back in 10 mins of our arrival and said she was having a mini heart attack. WALKER BAPTIST ER IS A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! YALL SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!!!!!!!!!

Arrived at the Er with severe back pain. Told the nurse about the problems I was having and was sent to a room to wait for the doctor. After a short wait the doctor came in and jumped up on the table with his legs dangling and swinging back and forth, then asked a few questions and then told me that I probably just had a muscle spasm and just needed to suck it up and to go home and take some Advil for the pain. Thing happen he said with his feet still dangling from the table. Then he said I'll take an X-ray just in case. This was the most unprofessional behavior that I have ever seen from a doctor. Dr Patton should be fired for this type of behavior and shouldn't be allowed to practice medicine. I have only been to the hospital two time in my life besides this time, once for stitches and once with my appendix. I do not go to the hospital unless I really need to go , and then when I get there to be told to suck it up , it happens and receive no treatment is unreal. Went to another hospital and was treated for herniated disc. So thanks for billing me for nothing.
