Issue:
A Supervisor called from the Ernest Childers VA Outpatient Clinic (Tulsa) (TOPC) requesting a review of a nurse with suspicion that she may have accessed another employee's record who she was dating. A Sensitive Patient Access Report (SPAR) was run and two dates of access was found in CPRS. After an investigation was done the employee had no notes entered and no appointments. The Privacy Officer (PO) advised the nurse to give a reason as to why she accessed the employee's medical record. The employee responded back to the PO, Supervisor, Union Representative and employee involved in the access. Her response was, " She access his medical record for training purpose to him as a new Program Support Assistant (PSA)." Update: 02/13/13:Employee A will be sent a notification letter. A test patient should have been used for training.
Outcome:
Supervisor responded back. Employee was required to take training over and counseled regarding this issue.
