Issue:

Based on interview the hospital failed to provide confidential medical treatment for one of one sampled patient (1). Findings:During an entity reported investigation on 1/30/12 at 1 p.m., the privacy officer stated Patient 1 made a complaint to the hospital stating a hospital employee was accessing his medical record without any medical necessity to do so. The privacy officer stated an internal investigation was conducted. The internal investigation findings confirmed the hospital employee had accessed Patient 1's medical record 318 times in the past year. All 318 accesses conducted by the hospital employee were unauthorized. The hospital employee further admitted to accessing Patient 1's medical record without an authorization or medical necessity to do so.
