Issue:
Based on telephone interview, the hospital failed to ensure that 1 of 1 sampled patient's (1) medical information was kept confidential from anyone not authorized access. Patient 1's medical information was inadvertently given to another patient without authorization which violated Patient 1's right to confidentiality.Findings:A telephone interview with the hospital's Director of Risk Management (DRM) was conducted on 6/26/13 at 12:50 P.M. The DRM stated that Patient 1's lab result document was inadvertently given to another patient. The document indicated Patient 1's name, date of birth, age, account number, the type of lab work and the results. The DRM stated that the nurse should have verified that the document was being given to the right patient. The DRM acknowledged that Patient 1's right to confidentiality was violated.
