Issue:
Veteran received a Christmas card in the mail from VA employee. The Veteran had not disclosed home address and suspects the employee misused access to obtain her home address. Update: Interviewed employee in question regarding complaint. Employee admits to accessing VISTA to obtain home address of complainant who she considered a "friend" to send a christmas card. Privacy Officer informed the employee that while well intended this is a violation of the Veteran's privacy and misuse of her access to the electronoic record. Employee expressed understanding of the violation and agrees to refrain from such actions in the future. Privacy Officer will notify employee's service chief of violation for appropriate administrative action.Veteran A will recieve a general notification letter.
Outcome:
Discussed violation with employee who understands the error and agrees to abstain in the future. Employee Service Chief notified for appropriate administrative action. Complainant notified of aforementioned corrective action in close out letter.
