Issue:
The RN on duty discovered patient lab labels in the trash can. The labels contained the patients' name and full SSN. Update: 07/20/12:One Patient will be sent a letter offering credit protection services due to full name and full SSN being exposed.
Outcome:
Lab supervisor provided additional in-service education to all laboratory staff regarding improper handling and disposal of labels with PII.
