Thirty-seven patients' medical information were inadvertently given to another patient without authorization which violated the patients' right to confidentiality.Findings:An interview and joint record review with the Director of Admitting (DOA) was conducted on 5/2/13 at 2:00 P.M. The DOA stated that a patient came to the registration window to register for a planned surgery. According to the DOA, during this process, an admitting staff inadvertently gave the patient the hospital surgery schedule that listed 37 patients scheduled for surgery. The list indicated the names of 37 patients, some of the patients' date of birth, the scheduled procedure to be done, and the patients' diagnoses. The DOA acknowledged that the surgery schedule should not have been given to the patient and that the patients' right to confidentiality was violated due to the admitting staff's mistake.
