Issue:
Birmingham VA Medical Center (BVAMC) Privacy Officer (PO) was notified by BVAMC Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) Nurse Manager via Reports of Contact (ROCs) that a BVAMC CBOC employee stated that another BVAMC CBOC employee had discussed patient information on numerous occasions in the area of the waiting room where those persons in the waiting area could hear. Said information consisted of patient's last name, medical conditions, diagnosis, the name of a deceased patient. On one date, a person in the waiting area was alleged to have walked out to sit in her car stating "I do not want to hear all the gossip."
Outcome:
03/05/14: This is a violation of patient confidentiality, of the numerous patients information being discussed only two Patients can be identified. Therefore Patient A and B will receive a notification letter.
