Issue:
A patient advocate received a complaint from Veteran A that a VA Employee was accessing Veteran A's sensitive record and sharing medical information with others. Update: 04/13/12:The Privacy Officer (PO)states that she believes that the inappropriate access occurred. Veteran A will receive a letter of notification.
Outcome:
4/18/12 PO spoke with Supervisor to see if employee had been interviewed. Supervisor will send me an update via email. Supervisort interviewed 5 MSAs who access sensitive record, all had valid reasons for access the Veteran's record. Sent an email to employee to schedule investigative interview. Employee is waiting for Union Rep to determine which day next week a meeting can occur. Reviewed with seasoned SLC Privacy/FOIA officer week of 5/14. No violation found viewing the SPAR report. Cancelled interview with employee.
