Report ID: PSETS0000104955, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Reported Entity: SHREVEPORT LA - 667

Issue:

A Veteran/Employee states that Employee A contacted him asking about his appointment set up, if the time was good and how the appointment went. The Veteran/Employee felt this was wrong and when asked why he was asking, Employee A stated that he did this for all his friends.

Outcome:

06/05/14: From what the Privacy Officer (PO) can tell at the moment, Employee A (clerk supervisor) went into the Veteran/Employee's appointments and then contacted the Veteran/Employee and asked him if the appointment time was satisfactory and how his appointment went. When the Veteran/Employee asked Employee A why he was looking at his appointments, Employee A stated that he does that for all his friends. Though he may have been conducting an audit of his staff's scheduling of appointments, it was inappropriate to contact the Veteran/Employee and ask about appointment times and how the appointment went. The PO has not spoken to the employee yet because he is out with an ill spouse. The Incident Resolution team determined that this was an inappropriate access and the Veteran/Employee will receive a HIPAA letter of notification.
