Issue:
A Patient Account Services (PAS) employee called Veteran A regarding an authorization for billing that was needed. During the course of the conversation the Veteran told the PAS employee that his BCBS insurance had been billed in error by a medical facility for Veteran B with the same name. He said that the medical center and BCBS had determined the insurance information was given to the medical center by an employee at the Oklahoma City VAMC. Update: 09/29/11:Due to full SSN and medical information being disclosed to unauthorized person, Veteran A will be sent a letter offering credit protection services.
Outcome:
Employee was educated by supervisor and appropriate administrative action has been taken.
