IN SEPTEMBER 2013, CTC DEBUTED ACT ONE, A NEW, INSTITUTION-WIDE APPROACH TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION. ACT ONE REPRESENTS A LARGE-SCALE PHILOSOPHICAL AND PRACTICAL CHANGE TO CTC'S APPROACH TO ACCESS, ORGANIZED AROUND THREE WORDS OF ACTION: ACCESS, CONNECT, TRANSFORM. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING A COHESIVE PLATFORM FOR ACCESS, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION IN OUR AUDIENCES, OUR PROGRAMS, OUR STAFF, AND OUR BOARD, ACT ONE HAS ALSO TRANSFORMED CTC'S TICKET ACCESS PROGRAMS THROUGH A NEW ACT PASS SYSTEM. THE ACT PASS WELCOMES LOW-INCOME FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS TO CTC THROUGH SUSTAINED ENGAGEMENT AND OPEN ACCESS TO LOW-COST TICKETS AND THEATRE ARTS TRAINING TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS. IN OUR FIRST SEASON, 800 FAMILIES WERE ACCEPTED INTO THE ACT PASS PROGRAM AND MORE THAN 60 COMMUNITY SERVING ORGANIZATIONS. THE 2013-2014 PROGRAM YEAR WAS ALSO ONE OF HUGE GROWTH FOR CTC'S EARLY CHILDHOOD INITIATIVE, WHICH AIMS TO BRING HIGH-QUALITY THEATRE EXPERIENCES TO CHILDREN AGES 2-5 AND THEIR CAREGIVERS. NEARLY 5,000 PEOPLE ATTENDED PERFORMANCES OF BALLOONACY, INCLUDING 582 WHO RECEIVED FREE OR LOW-COST TICKETS DUE TO ECONOMIC NEED. CTC ALSO CONTINUED OUR SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP WITH ST. PAUL EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION SERVING ESL FAMILIES, BRINGING THEATRE ARTS-BASED RESIDENCIES TO MORE THAN 300 PEOPLE IN THEIR ECFE CLASSROOMS. IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD BRIDGES PROGRAM IN TWIN CITIES PUBLIC SCHOOLS, CTC TEACHING ARTISTS REACHED A RECORD 667 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH A THEATRE ARTS CURRICULUM DESIGNED TO SUPPORT LANGUAGE AND LITERACY DEVELOPMENT. AT THE CLOSE OF THE PROGRAM YEAR, MORE THAN 2,000 FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS CAME TO CTC OVER FOUR NIGHTS TO SEE STUDENTS PERFORM THEIR ORIGINAL PLAYS IN THE CROSSING BRIDGES FESTIVAL. CTC ALSO PILOTED A NEW EXTENSION OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD BRIDGES CURRICULUM SPECIFICALLY FOR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS THIS YEAR; THE BUILDING BRIDGES KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM SERVED 212 STUDENTS.
