Each year SAY's counseling programs, including our Medi-Cal Clinic and the Dr. Coffee Teen Shelter, serve 425 youth and their families. SAY is also the lead contractor for Sonoma County's integrated mental health and wraparound service program that provide unconditional care for wraparound youth and their families to achieve successful outcomes, by bringing in other organizations as partners. At the Dr. James E. Coffee House Teen Shelter we provide emergency shelter to youth ages 12-17 for up to 21 days. A crisis counselor and drop-in services including food, clothing, sleeping bags, basic toiletries, and laundry facilities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This past year SAY staff at the Coffee Shelter sheltered 91 youth and successfully reunited 94% of teens in the program with their families or helped them find stable housing through SAY services and referrals. In the Medi-Cal Counseling Clinic, SAY offers a variety of modalities in our work with youth and their families. SAY employs 5 licensed clinicians and 16 interns in SAY's Medi-Cal Counseling Clinic. Each year they help equip over 350 kids and families with tools and resources to improve their lives. These dedicated counselors have volunteered over 4,250 hours to the youth and families we serve. In the wraparound service program, SAY implements a "no reject, no eject" intake/discharge policy as an integral part of the program. Under the program, youth and their families are referred by Sonoma County agencies. A Child and Family Team coordinates the assessment of each family's unmet needs, and creatively weave together a web of services and supports for that family. The approach is strength-based and family centered, and will focus on promoting family self-sufficiency.

SAY's prevention programs include Summer Jobs Program/WIA, Esperanza Services and Clean Slate.SAY's Summer Jobs Program offers young people comprehensive, year round services designed to help them find employment, stay in school, and succeed in their transition to adulthood. Teens that enroll are offered one on one support with, tutoring, study skills and instruction, summer employment opportunities, occupational skills training, leadership development, and adult mentoring opportunities.A key part of the program is offering employment to youth who need that first job opportunity. Last year the YouthLink youth employment and education program provided case management to 332 youth throughout Sonoma County. We provided jobs and paid internships for 196 youth. Esperanza Services, including Clean Slate tattoo removal, serve youth involved in gangs, both at-risk of joining and gang members. SAY's Esperanza Services addresses the societal impacts of youth disconnecting from their communities. The American Correctional Association estimates that, on average, it costs states $240.99 per day around $88,000 a year for every youth in a juvenile facility. Esperanza will prevent costly arrests and juvenile stays. At just $8.64 per service, Esperanza is a necessary investment. Esperanza serves youth ages 14-24. Esperanza helps gang-involved youth and those at risk of gang involvement to engage with a mentor, participate in prosocial activities, get off probation, participate in community service and find employment.

The Tamayo Village (ages 18-24) serves vulnerable young adults that include former foster youth and homeless young adults, many of whom have serious mental health issues. It is a 25 unit dorm-like facility located in a residential section of Santa Rosa. Youth homelessness has risen by over 61% in the last 2 years. While family homelessness has decreased, young adults are having a harder and harder time finding affordable housing and jobs. Overall, 1 in 4 homeless people in Sonoma County is under 25 years old. That's 1,128 kids sleeping outside in Sonoma County each night. In addition according to the Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress (2013), Santa Rosa has the largest number of all unaccompanied homeless youth in the nation. With 46,924 unaccompanied homeless youth in the US, our count of 1,128 in Sonoma County makes up 2.4% of the total population of homeless youth in the US. In contrast, the population of Sonoma County makes up just .05% of the total US population. Sonoma County is disproportionately represented with higher numbers of homeless youth in our community.- 80% of the kids moving out of Tamayo Village move into stable housing.
