PART I, LINE 2: GRANTMAKING FOR WATERSHED RESTORATION IS BASED ON A PROPOSAL AND WORKPLAN SUBMITTED BY THE GRANTEE. BEF MAINTAINS CONSTANT CONTACT WITH GRANTEES, BEF STAFF VISIT WITH GROUPS ON AN OCCASIONAL BASIS, AND RECEIVE ANNUAL REPORTS PROFILING THEIR ACTIVITIES. THESE THREE MECHANISMS ARE USED TO INDICATE TO BEF THAT THE GRANTEE IS USING THE FUNDS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SUBMITTED WORKPLAN. GRANTMAKING FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS FOR SCHOOLS REQUIRES PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS TO COMMIT TO ALLOWING BEF STAFF ACCESS TO THE FACILITY FOR FIVE TO TEN YEARS FOLLOWING THE GRANT. THIS ALLOWS BEF TO ENSURE THE GRANTED EQUIPMENT IS BEING MAINTAINED BY THE SCHOOL. BEF ALSO REQUIRES IN MOST CASES THAT THE SCHOOL PROVIDE ANNUAL REPORTS THAT INCLUDE UPDATES ON THE USE OF GRANT FUNDS OR MATERIALS.
