HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS - IN THE 2015-2016 FISCAL YEAR, NEW YORK CITY COUNCIL-FUNDED FUNDING ENABLED MARKS JCH CENTER FOR HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL ONSITE CASE MANAGEMENT, WELLNESS AND EDUCATIONAL/RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES, MINOR IN-HOME REPAIRS, IN-HOME CASE MANAGEMENT FOR HOMEBOUND SURVIVORS, HOUSEKEEPING, IT ASSISTANCE, AND HAIRDRESSING SERVICES. OUTREACH EFFORTS RESULTED IN SUPPORTING MORE THAN 600 SURVIVORS, INCLUDING 45 HOMEBOUND SURVIVORS SERVED EACH MONTH IN THE COMFORT OF THEIR HOMES. THE PROGRAM, WHILE NEW TO THE JCH, HAS ALREADY ACHIEVED SIGNIFICANT USAGE AND IS CONSTANTLY UPDATED TO ADDRESS THE CHANGING NEEDS OF THIS FRAIL AND AGING POPULATION. CHILDREN OF IMMIGRANTS - DUAL-LANGUAGE IMMERSION YEAR ROUND AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER CAMP. IN THE 2015-2016 FISCAL YEAR, 200 FAMILIES WERE SERVED BY THE MARKS JCH IN A RUSSIAN-LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAM HOSTED AT A RENTAL SITE IN BROWNSTONE BROOKLYN, EXTENDING THE REACH OF THE AGENCY TO A NEARBY NEIGHBORHOOD ATTRACTING INCREASING NUMBERS OF RUSSIAN-SPEAKING JEWISH FAMILIES. PROGRAMMING INCLUDED CULTURAL ARTS ACTIVITIES, RECREATION, LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION AND PRACTICE, AND EXCURSIONS TO SITES OF INTEREST AROUND NEW YORK CITY. CITIZENSHIP ASSISTANCE - IN THE 2015-2016 FISCAL YEAR, MARKS JCH RECEIVED A GRANT FROM NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT - NDA11 TO PROVIDE CITIZENSHIP ASSISTANCE. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED SERVICES TO 135 UNDUPLICATED CLIENTS (80% NDA, 20% OTHERS), INCLUDING LEGAL CLINICS AND CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION ASSISTANCE TO 74 CLIENTS THROUGH WORK WITH PARTNER AND SUBCONTRACTOR NYLAG, CIVIC EDUCATION CLASSES TO 50 CLIENTS, ONSITE CASE MANAGEMENT TO 69 CLIENTS. OUTREACH EFFORTS RESULTED IN IDENTIFYING 140 CLIENTS IN NEED OF SERVICES. THE PROGRAM IS LIMITED BY ZIP CODE BUT HAS PERFORMED AT SUCH EXCELLENCE THAT THE FUNDER INCREASED THE GRANT AMOUNT FOR THE NEW FISCAL YEAR IN RESPONSE TO WAITING LISTS FOR SPECIFIC UNITS OF SERVICE SUCH AS LEGAL CLINICS. |
