THE GATEWAY TO LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION, A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION ADMINISTERED BY THE MONEY MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE, SUPPORTS A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS TO FOSTER CAREER AWARENESS AND WORKFORCE READINESS FOR STUDENTS OF COLOR FROM HISTORICALLY UNDERREPRESENTED COMMUNITIES, PARTICULARLY AFRICAN AMERICANS AND HISPANICS, SEEKING INTERNSHIPS AND ENTRY-LEVEL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FINANCIAL SERVICES INDUSTRY. THE FOUNDATION'S PROGRAMS OF CAREER AWARENESS, INDUSTRY EDUCATION, SUMMER INTERNSHIP ACCESS, AND SUMMER INTERN EXPERIENCE, ARE DESIGNED TO BETTER EDUCATE MINORITY STUDENTS ABOUT THE FINANCIAL SERVICES INDUSTRY WITH THE PURPOSE OF EXPANDING AND IMPROVING THE CANDIDATE POOL FOR FULL-TIME ENTRY LEVEL POSITIONS AT MMI MEMBER FIRMS. THE FOUNDATION'S PROGRAM OF FULL-TIME ENTRY LEVEL CONNECTS HIRING FIRMS WITH DIVERSE, ENTRY-LEVEL TALENT SEEKING FULL-TIME JOB OPPORTUNITIES. THIS PROGRAM WILL EVOLVE OVER TIME AS MORE STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THE FOUNDATION'S EARLIER PROGRAMS AND BECOME TOP CANDIDATES FOR FULL-TIME, ENTRY-LEVEL POSITIONS AT MMI MEMBER FIRMS. |

NINE INTERNS PARTICIPATED IN THE 2017 GTL SUMMER EXPERIENCE PROGRAM, IN WHICH PARTICIPATING MEMBER FIRMS HOSTED THEM FOR NINE-WEEK INTERNSHIPS. LAST YEAR, THE MONEY MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE (MMI), THE ORGANIZATION'S RELATED ORGANIZATION, ASSISTED THE FOUNDATION BY WORKING WITH THE UNITED NEGRO COLLEGE FUND (UNCF) AND THE HISPANIC ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES (HACU) TO SOURCE DIVERSE INTERNS FOR THE PARTICIPATING MEMBER FIRMS. MMI ALSO WORKED DIRECTLY WITH MEMBER FIRMS TO ENROLL THEIR SELF-RECRUITED DIVERSE INTERNS INTO THE PROGRAM TO BENEFIT FROM THE GTL SUMMER EXPERIENCE. MMI ADDED MORE EDUCATIONAL CONTENT AND ACTIVITIES TO THE PROGRAM EXPERIENCE, SUCH AS MENTORSHIPS, CURRENT EVENT DISCUSSIONS, INDUSTRY INSIGHT CALLS AND NETMEETINGS FEATURING GUEST SPEAKERS FROM THE INDUSTRY, AND AN ONLINE PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION DEVELOPMENT COURSE. THE QUALITY OF THE PROGRAM'S EDUCATIONAL CONTENT AND THE LEVEL OF INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT WAS INVALUABLE FOR THE INTERNS AS THEY PURSUE A CAREER IN THE INVESTMENT ADVISORY SOLUTIONS INDUSTRY. |
