Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services Description OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Totem Star: Totem Star is a fiscally sponsored program that empowers youth with life skills through music production and performance to increase leadership, civic engagement, and community building. Using the model of a record label, youth create and perform music, produce public events, and contribute to the cultural richness of their communities as working artists and entrepreneurs. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Creative Schools Program: Arts Corps collaborates with classroom teachers to foster long term, positive impact on student learning and school culture by providing high quality integrative arts experiences in schools. Such programming impacts student engagement, creative capacities, academic performance, attendance and learning dispositions. In addition, this programming provides teachers with expanded teaching strategies and promotes a strong school community through an arts rich environment. In 2017-2018, Arts Corps served 1414 students averaging between 3 to 8 hours of instruction per student depending on site. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Elementary Arts Program: Arts Corps places teaching artists in elementary after-school programs to engage students in project-based or thematic arts learning. This program provides access to high quality arts programming for youth with the least access to creative learning opportunities. This not only fosters students artistic abilities but also fosters increased practice of creative habits of mind higher order thinking skills such as imagination, critical thinking, risk-taking and persistence that support student success in school and in life. In 2017-2018, the elementary arts program served 161 students with an average class length of 16 hours. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Arts Space: Arts Space Programming is held at a local youth crisis center and low income housing centers. It offers therapeutic, creative experiences to help youth who have experienced abuse and/or homelessness develop their voice and express their feelings in safe and imaginative ways. We use emergent curriculum, which integrates the interests and experiences of young people into programs and forges the trust necessary to engage youth who have developed distrust as a survival mechanism. Using creative expression helps youth in crisis to establish an internal sense of safety, reestablish attachment with positive adult role models, and reframe and integrate traumatic experiences. In 2017-2018, the residential arts program served 365 students with an average class length of 3 to 18 hours depending on site. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Special Projects: Arts Corps Special Projects include performance learning opportunities for youth. Arts Corps facilitated 16 youth led workshops and youth performances in the community in the 2017-2018 program year. Additionally, 5 youth performed and led workshops and a panel discussion at SXSW in Austin, TX, and 2 youth performed and led a panel discussion for Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman and the Youth Development Executives of King County. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Adult Professional Development: Arts Corps offers professional development opportunities for teaching artists, school teachers, administrators, and other individuals in the education field. Our workshops provide participants with hands on activities and strategies for high quality arts instruction or integration as well as evaluation and assessment of creative practice. All trainings are taught by master-level teaching artists and program staff who customize sessions to meet the needs of the participants.
